Barsana is most celebrated globally for its Lathmar Holi — the extraordinary festival where women of Barsana playfully strike men from neighboring Nandgaon (Krishna's village) with long bamboo sticks, while the men defend themselves with shields, all to the sound of devotional music and clouds of colored powder. This ancient celebration reenacts the playful divine love between Radha and Krishna, and draws pilgrims and travelers from across the world. Perched atop the highest of Barsana's four sacred hills, this grand sandstone temple is the most important shrine dedicated to Srimati Radharani — worshipped as the supreme deity of Barsana, not merely as Krishna's consort. The deity 'Ladli Shriji' (the beloved daughter) is dressed in elaborate garments and jewelry, and her daily shringara (adornment) ceremonies are attended by thousands of pilgrims. The climb up the carved steps to the temple, with panoramic views opening at every landing, is itself a pilgrimage.

The temple has a deeply intimate, unhurried atmosphere compared to the main Shriji Mandir.

The world-famous Lathmar Holi makes Barsana unmissable in February-March. Women of Barsana playfully beat men from Nandgaon with bamboo sticks while singing devotional songs in Braj Bhasha. Clouds of gulal (coloured powder) fill the air. This is a deeply joyful, sacred celebration — book accommodation 3-4 months in advance as it sells out completely.

The birthday of Srimati Radharani transforms Barsana into a town of flowers and devotion. The Shriji Mandir holds an elaborate abhishek (sacred bathing) of the deity, followed by an annakut offering. The entire hilltop is illuminated at night — one of the most beautiful sights in Braj.
